Patricia Jean King

Savannah-Patricia King died Monday, February 12, 2007 at her home.

Patricia, loving mother, grandmother, and award winning teacher was born in Batavia, New York on June 24, 1949. She is a graduate of Albion High School in Albion, New York, D’Youville College in Buffalo, New York and Armstrong College in Savannah, Georgia.

Patricia taught at St. James Catholic School in Savannah, St. Louis Catholic School in Alexandria, Virginia and at Lake Ridge Middle School in Prince William County, Virginia. Upon retiring, she returned to Savannah and has been a mathematics consultant in many schools as well as sharing her experience by mentoring new teachers. She is preceded in death by her father, Harmon Ries and her step-father, Frank Gavenda.

Patricia is survived by her mother, Mildred Ries Gavenda; husband, John King; son, Kurt Sarah Steinberg; stepsons, Jason King and Matthew Jennifer King; sisters, Mary Joann Marc Hinman, Marcia Greg Rencsak, and Margaret Alan Vandetti; brother, James Sue Ries; grandsons, William Steinberg and Andrew Steinberg and many loving nieces, nephews and her dearest friends, Emma and Bill Simon.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 16, 2006 at the Islands Chapel of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors. The family will begin to receive friends at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in care of the Patricia J. King Memorial Fund, Bloomingdale Elementary School, 101 E. Main Street, Bloomingdale, GA 31302. The fund will be used to help students succeed academically or to Hospice Savannah, Inc. P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.
